We run our Prenatal group for 4 consecutive weeks, we run these throughout the year with the exception of the summer months, please call 519-756-3787 in or text 519-442-1119 for dates. It is important that our moms-to-be have a base intake completed prior to taking our prenatal course. We host our pre-natal group on Wednesdays and are from 1 until 3 pm for the 4 consecutive weeks. You are encouraged to bring your labour and delivery support partner to your prenatal course whenever possible.
Here is what we cover:
We cover what is happening in your body currently, baby positioning, issues that may arise at the end of pregnancy as well as health and nutrition for the third trimester. We discuss Braxton Hicks contractions, when you may need to connect with your health care provider and reasons it may be time to go to the hospital.
This week we run through the actual Labour and Delivery process. We discuss how the baby moves down the birth canal, how contractions work, stages of labour and when to head to the hospital if you are not having a home birth. We also discuss times interventions might be needed and explain each one so attendees can make informed decisions. We also touch on comfort measures while in labour and how your coach can support you through your labour process.
HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL
This week we talk through what you will need for going home with your baby. This includes information on Breastfeeding, Bottle feeding, baby bath and so much more. This week is designed to empower our new parents so that they are not scrambling to gain the information during a time that they may be sleep deprived and overwhelmed.
LET’S PUT IT ALTOGETHER
This week is the practical piece where we put in to practice the things we’ve learned about. This is a week of hands-on learning. We will break out the birthing balls, try positions for comfort and optimum labouring. We will also try our hand at baby baths, breastfeeding, holding and comforting baby. It’s a fun wrap up to a great time of information and empowerment!
At the end of these 4 weeks, you will receive a certificate of completion, suitable for hanging or placing in your baby’s memory book. You will receive blankets, diapers, wipes, labour bag, bottles a book with all the information at your fingertips and for reference.
This program is led by the Centre’s Doula and Sonja our resident retired nurse, both of whom bring exceptional information and insight into this grand adventure called Birth.
